Latest Version: 3.2
OS: Win95/98/ME and Windows NT/2000/XP PROGRESS versions: V8.2 to V10.x What is VIPER
Viper stands for "Visual Printing and Enhanced Reports.Graphical printing under PROGRESS becomes possible (and comfortable). VIPER works like a PROGRESS 4GL enhancement, which gives you the ability to use printer drivers for printing. The core of VIPER consists of a dll (viper32.dll). This file is wrapped by a Progress file (viper.p) which makes the functionality available in your apps. Viper for Windows Viper's goal is to allow the printing capabilities of windows systems to be used from within Progress, while retaining the transparency and controllability of the printing process of the program. With this objective in mind, all automatically engaged functions have been avoided wherever the programmer can retain practical control, without increasing the amount of superfluous programming tasks. The control over the page separation lies in the hands of the programmer, whereby a kind of automatic line feed exists through the group logic. On the other hand the text can be positioned on the paper relatively unrestricted. Viper for Linux/Unix Viper for Unix (Viper4Unix) is the port of Viper to Unix. It runs on Linux 32/64 Bit machines and most other Unix systems which are actual and active on the market. Viper4Unix have all standard capabilities of Viper (for Windows) and allows you to easily transport your reports from Windows to Unix. It has Unix printer support via PostScript and can create PDF files for web applications, delivery with email or store reports. This helps you to build a perfect SaaS solution whether you run Windows or Linux/Unix. Hint: Windows specific elements and commands are only available in Windows, e.g. Preview or Printer Dialogue.
